Scholarships
The Lalonde Family Initiative has announced the launch of a new program, the Lalonde
Family Athletic Scholarships, effective beginning with the 2023-24 academic and athletic school year.
The scholarships will be given annually by the Lalonde Family Initiative to outstanding local athletes in North
Country, New York.
The goal of the Initiative is to encourage participation in scholastic athletics, which provide
an opportunity for high school students to enhance their discipline, perseverance, teamwork and leadership
skills. With these scholarships, the Initiative aims to highlight the strong, positive bond between scholastic
athletes, North Country and its citizens.

The Lalonde Family Initiative would like to congratulate each recipient on their athletic and academic achievements, which exemplify the values of the Initiative and the spirit of the mission.

2024-2025 Scholarship Winners

My name is Merrick Frary and I am a three sport athlete, (lacrosse, hockey, and soccer) with my main focus being on lacrosse. Throughout this year I was named captain in all of those teams.

I have been awarded the first team All-Northern Award, the Vern-Burrows Award, as well as leading my soccer team to earn the section X Sportsmanship Award. I have earned the athlete of distinction aware for my academics.
​
Next year I will be attending SUY Potsdam to attain my bachelors degree in business, and I will be fulfilling my dream of playing collegiate lacrosse there as well.

I have accomplished many different things in my high school career. I was one of the swim team captains this past year.

In Cheerleading, I received the All-Northern Sportsmanship award two years ago and First Team All-Northern Award at sectionals this past February.
​
I have also taken on the role of a lead in my musical this past year The Lightning Thief...
​
I have been accepted into SUNY Potsdam and will be swimming for the Potsdam Bears and majoring in Music Business.

The past 4 years, I have been a part of many athletic accomplishments. My hockey team was able to win two section X Championships over the past four years: one during my Freshman season and the other during my Senior season. I was also awarded the Section X Sportsmanship Award this past hockey season.

Last spring my lacrosse team was able to win the Section after a hard fought season.
​
In the fall I plan to attend college and earn my Master's Degree in Childhood Education.

2023-2024 Scholarship Winners

Mason, a two-sport varsity athlete in basketball and soccer, will finish his senior year as a Second Team
All-Northern selection, two-year captain of the basketball team and the leading goal-scorer of St. Lawrence
Central’s soccer team. Mason also earned Athlete of Distinction honors, which recognizes senior students who
have maintained an academic average of 90 throughout their entire career.

Young is an all-around athlete at St. Lawrence Central, starting varsity all four years in soccer and basketball and
three years in softball. She has received back-to-back Second Team All-Northern selections in softball and
basketball, and First Team All-Northern honors in soccer her senior year. Additionally, Young has been
recognized as an Athlete of Distinction for her academic achievements.

Bellinger has been a four-year member of St. Lawrence Central’s swim team, where she has served as team
captain and received several honors including the Lisa Lane Award, Swimming Sportsmanship Award and
Athlete of Distinction recognition. She has qualified for the New York State Championship in swimming since her sophomore year of high school, and has earned a total of six First Team All-Northern selections and seven
Second Team All-Northern selections across a variety of events, including the 400-freestyle relay, where she
broke the school record her junior year.
